In our pursuit to making rights real, we bring to you our plans and activities for the week. This is done, in so that the public, media and our partners are always aware of our cases and advocacy activities. We hope that this is not only informative but encourages everyone to contribute towards our goal, which is making rights real.

The Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme (RMRP) in Durban is assisting a team from the ARD (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) on a story about refugees in South Africa. The main focus of this story is to tell unheard stories about the refugees, where they come from and their current living conditions in South Africa.  The ARD is a joint organization of Germany’s regional public-service broadcasters  and the world’s second largest public broadcasters with almost 60 radio stations  throughout  Germany with around a million daily listeners.

The RMRP in Pretoria will be representing a refugee mother at the Pretoria North Children’s Court for a matter discussing a beneficial parenting plan. The mother hopes the court will agree to a plan that ensures that the primary residency of the child is with her and that, both her and the father can agree on how and when can the child have contact with the father.
 
LHR will also be supporting the #SaveSA at its People’s Assembly on Wednesday 2 November in Tshwane,  inlight of what has happened over the few past weeks, we must stand together to ensure that our institutions remain free from political interference.  For updates on this march follow #SaveSA or @LHR_SA

The RMRP in Durban in partnership with UNHCR (United Nation Human Rights Council) and RSS will be hosting a focus group meeting is for refugees youth to discuss their challenges.
 
The Gender Equality Programme will be in Kampala with the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), for our joint project of combatting sexual violence in Africa
 
This meeting will be attended by a group of Lawyers from all over the African continent, who have expertise in litigating sexual offense cases. The lawyers hail from South Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, and Côte d’lvoire, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya.
 
For two days the meeting will identify and discuss  strategies for litigating sexual violence cases in regional forums, such as the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, and the African Commission.
